Purple reminds me of my mom. Soft, and soothing, and sweet. I don't wear purple often, but when I do, I always think of her. 

Isn't it strange how we associate things or scents or sounds with feelings? It's strange, but incredible, and I like that very much.

Here's one of my favorite "purple" songs. Seems appropriate for this post, and this time of year.

This outfit make me feel quite ladylike. The color palette is feminine and the heels are nice and petite compared to the wedges I normally wear. The skirt is made just right. The pleats are there to give you volume, and the thick band does it's job of cinching you in to create a nice waistline. I can't believe I found it for so cheap!

Also, this skirt is the only purple item I have in my closet. Isn't that strange?

Never underestimate the power of a dress.  
A casual, printed, flowy, non-wrinkleable, dress.
I've worn this dress a few times before, but this was the first time it was captured through a lens.  I love how it can transform itself from an airy look into a darker look simply with the addition of tights and tall boots.  
I felt very "me" in this outfit, even though I wouldn't classify myself as having a bohemian style.  It's nice to have some of those unexpected power pieces in your closet, like a secret arsenal to cheer you up when you're feeling blue.

I love purple, red, and pink together.  It's like an ode to Valentine's Day that can be worn anytime of the year.  Throw on some fringe booties and colored tights and you're prepared for fall's gusty winds!

DIY: TOMS Sandals

Hello everyone!  It's been a while since my last blog post.  My time between now and Mother's Day has been jam-packed - I've transitioned to a new house for the summer, spent some quality time at my family's lake cottage, and soaked up the sun in Nick's family's new pool!  I officially start my internship tomorrow (I am SO excited and nervous!) and it will be my first time working a 9 to 5 job.  I've packed my lunch and set my alarm, but I expect it will take me a while to get used to my new schedule.  

I wanted to relax as much as I could before my internship started, so I passed the time reading the Dexter book series by Jeff Lindsay (I'm on the 3rd one; they're addicting), rollerblading, and perusing the internet.  When I stumbled across these TOMS on Pinterest, I knew I had to do it myself.  Scroll down to see my step-by-step process! 

I started with this pair of TOMS.  My toe had poked a hole through the right foot so they were the perfect candidates for this project.

I put my scissors in the hole my toe had created and followed the seam.  If you are trying this yourself, make sure you cut through both layers of fabric!

Next, I trimmed off the excess and cut the canvas around the sole of the shoe.

Next, I began cutting between the two seams.  Because I did not already have a pre-made hole from my toe, I held the scissors like so and made a small incision.  I could then stick my scissors into the hole and make a larger cut.

I did this on both sides of the shoe, still following the general pattern of the stitching.

Next, I used the same scissor technique to cut two holes in the side panel of the shoe.  I repeated this process on the inside panel, and when I was finished, the whole process on the left shoe.

Voila! My TOMS had transformed into sandals!

One thing I noticed after cutting out so much fabric was that the shoes became pretty loose on my feet.  Nonetheless, they're great for the summer and it's a fun DIY project that doesn't take much time or skill.  Try it out!

I love the soft, breezy feel of this hi/lo dress.  The cut is SO on trend right now, + the knit fabric makes for a perfect blend of casual elegance.

It feels like forever since I've last blogged, but life and school have been crazy this past week!  I'm almost done with all my projects and papers for my JUNIOR year of college.  I can't believe how fast the time has flown, and the ending of this school year is a little bittersweet.  The good news is, though, that I have big plans for this summer!  I can't wait for what's coming!

How fabulous are these shoes?  I LOVE them!  Even though I didn't wear them all day around campus, I couldn't wait to put them on for these pictures! (I wore these sandals instead.)  Also, I couldn't resist pairing them with these adorable floral socks I picked up when I was in Durango.

I have a few fun events planned for this weekend and I can't wait to get them started.  TGIF, even if it is the 13th!
