Skirt: Tommy Hilfiger Outlet
Wedges: Michael Kors

I've recently graduated from college (WOOT WOOT!) and moved on to my first real job!
That means, along with many other changes in my life, my blog will be changing as well. I'll now be chronicling more polished & professional outfits for a young 20-something in a business casual work environment.
This was one of those outfits that came together perfectly. I had been searching for a top to put with this skirt, but hadn't thought of this combo until this morning. I love it! Also, I would really recommend these wedges for a woman who wears heels all day - they're lightweight and they fit my feet like a dream. I hardly notice I'm wearing heels!
P.S. How do you like my happy twirl?

My mom bought this skirt for me over Labor Day weekend at the GAP outlet store by our lake cottage.      I had to wear it right away, not only because its adorable, but because it was new!  I paired it with casual accessories so I didn't feel too stuffy for class.
I recently landed a dream internship for this fall, working as a social media intern for a local beauty school.  I am excited to learn from this job - it's been a challenge so far!  I run the company twitter, facebook, pinterestinstagram, and I will be creating a blog as well.  Feel free to follow along on our journey!

Too Hot to Handle

9July12(1) 9July12(2) 9July12(3) 9July12(4) 9July12(5)

Tank: Target
Shorts: GAP
Sandals: Nike, Finish Line
Sunglasses: Claire's
Earrings: Vera Wang for Kohl's

It was about 110 degrees when we took these photos this past Saturday, and let me tell you something friends - 110 degrees is hot.  Hotter than hot.  Thankfully, sheer shirts are in, so I was able to get away with practically not wearing anything on top.  Score!

In other exciting news, I had a 3rd piercing put in my ear!  My boss, who is super fierce and fabulous, (and about my mom's age) has one in her left ear.  She rocks it, so I couldn't help but copy!  She's truly become a mentor for me, so I thought this would be a cool way to commemorate her.

Speaking of, I am so sad my time at my internship will be ending in less than a month.  I love what I'm doing, and even though I'm completely ready to start my senior year of college (woot woot!), I will miss what I'm doing at maurices.  I've grown wiser and more goal-oriented in terms of my career path, and the challenges and responsibility of my job has shaped who I have become.  So, although the end is going to be bittersweet, I have been blessed.

Maxi's have easily become my new favorite silhouette.  They're breezy and comfy and they look chic - perfect for summer days!

Nick and I have been experimenting with different camera techniques and I am super proud of the sun flare on the last photo!  I'm lucky he is patient with me and willing to help.  He's the best.  :)

A Little Birdie Told Me...

2June12(1) 2June12(2) 2June12(3) 2June12(4) 2June12(5) 2June12(6)

Cardigan: Target
Ruffle Blouse: LC Lauren Conrad for Kohl's
Jeans: Silver, Von Maur
Sandals: Blowfish
Earrings: Lucky Brand
Bangles: ALDO & The Buckle

This is what I look like after an 8 hour day at the store (aka my new home).  I think I've finally gotten used to the somewhat strange schedule I've been given (Wednesdays and Thursdays act as my weekend now) and all I can say is: props to anyone who works in retail - actually, props to anyone who works full time!  I can finally understand why my parents are so exhausted when they get home from work.  Besides the fatigue, however, I'm truly enjoying learning the ins and outs of the fashion industry.  I never realized how much responsibility store managers hold, and if you think its an easy job you couldn't be more wrong.  Yet, with all the new and daunting tasks and expectations, I love knowing that I work for a company that values the effort I put in to my job.  In short, I love maurices!

Anyway, yesterday was my birthday!  I'm officially 22 years old now.  If you wanna check out pictures of my delicious cakes (yes, multiple) or just have a peek into my life, you can follow me on instagram, username mw_thread, or if you don't have a smart phone/device, you can follow me online here.

So, how about this outfit?  I love the bird print (we call this a conversational print at maurices) and if you look closely, my earrings are little birds sitting on branches!  I should have taken a close up of them - oops!  Also, the ruffles and pleats add a sweet, girly touch to an otherwise simple outfit.  And who doesn't love a sock bun?

P.S. I know I'm a little late on the uptake here, but if you haven't checked out Of Monsters and Men's new album, My Head is an Animal, you NEED to!  I'm listening to it as I type!

The Problem with Shorts

14March12(1) 14March12(2) 14March12(3) 14March12(4)

Tank: Target
Cami: Target
Shorts: See Thru Soul, Von Maur
Shoes: TOMS
Sunglasses: Rayban "Clubmasters"
Earrings: GAP
Bracelets: ALDO (gold), Von Maur (silver), Gift from China (white)
Ring: Local artist from Durango, CO

Oh my goodness, it is HOT! It finally feels like summer out there, which I love! I spent the breaks between classes today reading outside by Frog Baby and getting some sun.  It felt fantastic.

I changed my outfit about five times this morning before I finally settled on this one.  This is my only pair of shorts I own that truly fits me and that I feel comfortable in (aka, I'm covered without being too conservative).  This has been a problem ever since I gained some weight from college, and for the past few summers, I've been at a loss with how to dress myself.  Most of the shorts and skirts I find are micro mini, which is an instant no, but I don't want to totally cover myself up either.  It's hard to find the happy medium.

These shorts have a higher waist, which I like, and I can wear them with the confidence that my booty won't be hanging out of the back!   I am on the lookout for some cute, affordable shorts that are made to fit a young woman, while trying to veer away from the teenage look.  Is anyone else going through this?  Where do you find the best summer clothes?

Peter Pan

17Feb12(1) 17Feb12(2) 17Feb12(3) 17Feb12(4)

Sweater: Target
Cami: Target
Jeans: Big Star, The Buckle
Booties: Blowfish
Belt: Fossil, Macy's
Hat: Dollar Bin at Marsh (grocery store)
Earrings: ??
Necklace: Tiffany & Co

Hats are perfect for Fridays.  They keep you warm, cover up dirty hair, and look cute!  This hat was only a dollar at our local grocery store, so I couldn't pass it up.  I decided to fold the back so it wasn't cutting into my neck, and I loved the result - even if Nick called me Peter Pan all day.

I love the colors and textures in this outfit, they're totally my style.  Neutrals, greens, and knits all the way!

Have a happy Friday, everyone!

Today is the day.  While watching a documentary on Bayard Rustin in my COMM 290 lecture, I began daydreaming.  Lost in my reverie, I made the decision to finally start the blog I've long been musing over.

Maybe it's the New Year's resolution finally kicking in, or my (not so) recent obsession with blogging, but today, an unknown force inspired me.  This outfit isn't what I would normally wear, but today I felt the compelling need to create and deviate.

Isn't it incredible how your clothes are that much a part of you? How they can inspire and arouse?  I love expressing myself through what I wear, and I love how my clothes make me feel.
